The Ministry for Education, Youth, Sport, Research and Innovation and Special Olympics Malta have signed an agreement marking an important step in the national commitment to inclusive education and the wellbeing of athletes. The agreement establishes a strategic framework for collaboration, strengthening sport as a means of inclusion, empowerment, and holistic development within the country’s educational ecosystem.

Celebrating the Achievements of Athletes Rachel Chircop and Jerome Nwoko at Malta Sports Awards 2026. The 66th edition of the Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali - Malta Sports Awards 2026 brought a moment of pride and celebration for the Maltese sports community. Two outstanding athletes, Rachel Chircop and Jerome Nwoko, received well-deserved recognition from the Malta Sports Journalists Association.

Special Olympics Malta proudly congratulates Anna Calleja on being awarded the Lifelong Dedication to Maltese Sport Award during the Celebrating Sports in Malta 2026 event, organised by Sport Malta and held on Saturday, 17 January 2026, in Valletta. This prestigious recognition honours her decades of unwavering commitment and invaluable contribution to the development of sport in Malta.

Special Olympics Malta is proud to announce that athlete and artist Rachel Chircop has collaborated with renowned artist Tom Geleb to create the artwork Unified Embrace, which is being exhibited as part of "Art for Everyone and with Everyone", a project organised by MEP Chiara Gemma and currently on display at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The first MATP (Motor Activity Training Program) Meetup in Seixal, Portugal, organized by Special Olympics Portugal, united athletes from six countries: Malta, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Cyprus, and Italy.

Special Olympics EU Day provided another important opportunity for athletes to raise their voices, share their lived experiences, and advocate for greater inclusion across Europe. The event, held between the 24th and 25th of September, brought together athletes, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss pressing issues in Health, Early Development, and Inclusive Sports and Education.

On Saturday, 20th September 2025, Reġjun Tramuntana and Special Olympics Malta teamed up to organise a special sports event, bringing communities together through sport. The event welcomed the participation of several Special Olympics Malta athletes alongside individuals from the North Region of Malta.

Through the funds raised during the 2025 edition of A Night at the Palace, Special Olympics Malta will be launching the Strong Minds program, as part of a new phase of health related services and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

On September 16, 2025, Special Olympics International was honored with the prestigious "Fair Play for Peace" award in Brussels, recognizing its commitment to promoting inclusion and peace through sport.

Over 250 athletes from across Malta and Gozo participated in a celebration of inclusion during the first edition of the National Beach Games 2025, marking a significant milestone for Special Olympics Malta on Saturday 5th July 2025.

As we continue expanding our programmes to support every athlete, all proceeds from A Night at the Palace – The Sound of Cinema will go towards Special Olympics Malta’s new mental health screening initiative Stong Minds.
