Special Olympics EU Day 2025

24/09/2025

Special Olympics EU Day provided another important opportunity for athletes to raise their voices, share their lived experiences, and advocate for greater inclusion across Europe. The event, held between the 24th and 25th of September, brought together athletes, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss pressing issues in Health, Early Development, and Inclusive Sports and Education.

Representing Special Olympics Malta, athletes Rachel, Sam, Gilmour, and Faith actively participated in meaningful exchanges with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). Their contributions highlighted both the challenges they face and their ideas for shaping a more inclusive society.

Special Olympics Malta extends its sincere gratitude to European Parliament President Roberta Metsola for her support, as well as to Maltese MEPs Alex Agius Saliba, Thomas Bajada, David Casa, and Peter Agius for their engagement and commitment towards building a more inclusive Europe.

This year’s EU Day reaffirmed the importance of ensuring that the voices of people with intellectual disabilities are heard in decision-making spaces. By engaging directly with policymakers, Special Olympics athletes continue to lead the way in driving change for a fairer and more inclusive Europe.
