Gilmour Borg sends a strong message for Inclusion at the Special Olympics Winter World Games 2025

Gilmour Borg, Special Olympics Malta athlete, was one of the keynote speakers at the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Winter World Games 2025 taking place in Turin, Italy, alongside Dr. Tim Shriver, Chairperson of Special Olympics, delivering an inspiring messages of hope and courage to the 1,500 athletes gathered in Turin, Italy, between the 8th and 16th of March 2025.

The Opening Ceremony welcomed a vibrant Special Olympics movement of 1,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities, 1,000 coaches, 2,000 volunteers, and 3,000 family members — all united by their passion for fostering a more inclusive society through the power of sport.
His speech served as a heartfelt reminder of the impact of the Special Olympics movement. Addressing the athletes, Gilmour encouraged them to see the Games as a chance to dream big and showcase their abilities and talents. The resounding message, “Give your best, Be your best,” inspired athletes to embrace the opportunity to be brave and resilient.
Gilmour also honoured the dedication of coaches, the volunteers, and the enduring pride of families, highlighting that every individual present for the World Games plays a vital role in building a more inclusive world.

His words resonated deeply, reinforcing the lasting legacy of the Games, on that extends far beyond the World Games, carrying the spirit of unity and inclusion into communities worldwide.
Special Olympics Malta is also proudly contributing to the Special Olympics Winter World Games through the participation of four Clinical Directors as part of the Healthy Athletes’ Programme. The Maltese Clinical Directors together specialised professional from across the world are offering free comprehensive health screenings in Vision/Eye Health, Audiology, Dentistry, and Emotional Health, to support the well-being of all participating athletes.
