Cyprus National Games 2025

Special Olympics Malta athletes has achieved outstanding performance at the Cyprus National Games 2025, held between the 3rd and 7th May 2025. The our athletes brought home an impressive total of 16 medals, including 7 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze.


The Games, held in Cyprus, saw eight athletes representing Malta across 17 athletics and swimming events.


  • Jerome Nwoko and Thomas Saliba captured gold in the 100m run with Ganni Abdilla achieving a silver medal in the 100m run. Maia Mallia celebrated early success with a silver medal in the softball throw and a bronze in the 100m run.

  • Steven Vella, Matt Mamo, and Luke De Pasquale dominated the swimming events, collecting multiple gold and silver medals across freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke races.

  • Essien Mifsud delivered an exceptional win in the 25m backstroke.


“We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes,” said Dr. Lydia Abela, President of Special Olympics Malta. “They have shown not only their athletic abilities but also an incredible sense of  determination, and teamwork.”
